In any event, I'm waiting for the white line spacers, new recoil pad before putting the finish on. Unbelievable how much goo came out of the checkering. I ended up spending about an hour using the end of a small wood chisel to scrape the checkering grooves. After using a nylon bristle brush to work the stripper into the checkering grooves, scraping, a rinse, then a scrub with a clean dry nylon brush the checkering still looked dirty and well, full of gooey junk. I used #0 steel wool to smooth down the raised grain, back with a lint free cloth and then a good rub with #0000 steel wool. A quick rinse in the utility sink and a rub down with a lint free rag. I stripped the old finish, scraped, used more stripper and scraped again. It was also missing the trigger assembly.
